Why science is never settled

Prototype variable star has a previously unknown companion

Quote:

This is a surprising discovery, since Delta Cephei is one of the most studied stars, of which scientists thought they knew almost everything.
Global Warming crowd think they know everything, or or they try to suggest that everything is already known about their so-called claim to be science driven.  If they were truly scientifically oriented, they'd know things like the above are always happening in science.  Otherwise, it isn't science.  It is a religion, which ( come to think of it ) should be settled, but these days can be said to be malleable to the will of politicians ( as with homosexual marriage ).

Bush flubs Iraq question

Bush ain't the ticket.  The third time won't be the charm, unless it is for America's enemies. Those within and those without.

I'm sure I've covered the topic before, so I won't belabor what should be obvious.

All the evidence you need

of how the left is winning is in this quote, which is reference to global warming claims:

"In the end, if you win the frame war, your opponents back off and they start using your language," he said. "And then you've won."

It's the same with all of the "debates".  The left wins when there's nobody left to dispute their premises.

We lose when we play their game by their rules.  There's the proof right up above in that quote.

Limbaugh once talked about how the left has hijacked the language.  They have indeed, and that is how they hijacked public opinion and how they are winning.

And that is why when you refer to homosexuals as "gay", you eventually end up with same sex marriage.  Marriage stops being a sacred institution and becomes the left's latest trophy in the culture war.

The quote just told you how they do it.  The so-called right isn't even fighting, they are surrendering.

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly - Showdown

The irony is so thick, you can cut it with a knife.  There's a lot of tension here, but "Blondie" is so cool.  He can afford to be because he rigged the outcome in his own favor.  The viewer can feel the tension, but it is all for nothing.  Well, if you can't take a joke...

Westboro Baptist Church

That name came up in the WaPo article I was just reading.  The same sex bunch are fairly confident of victory, but is that confidence justified?

I'm not so sure now.  For awhile there, I was a bit worried, and still am.  However, I'm hoping that good sense prevails, and the same sex marriage crowd will lose, and lose big time.

As I mentioned, the name came up, and of course it conjures up images of really bad human beings that hate other people who are just different.  But I went to their website, and they just seem to be a bit more clever than average in using the phrase "God hates Fags".

That phrase gets attention you see.  After all, I googled it myself.  I checked them out, and no, they aren't a bunch of mindless "haters".  They cite the reasons for what they believe.  You may not agree, but you can't say that what they say is without reason.

But it is unfortunate that such phrasing is necessary in order to get attention.

The supporters of same sex marriage have no arguments.  None.  Zero.  Zilch.  Nope.  If the primary thing that they can cite is that "animals do it", meaning same sex acts, then they must lose.  Do animals get married?  Do they believe in God?  Or are they atheist?  To cite what animals do is a rather poor justification.  It shows the rather poorly developed mental state that these people have fallen into.  Have we really sunk to the level of animals as a way to organize a civilized life?  It is oxymoronic.  Animals live in a state of nature, which is amoral.  Is that the way we should be?

Appalling, just apalling

The op-ed piece in the New York Times, that is.

It isn't so much that the left is probably going to win this one ( same sex marriage ), is that she points out how much trouble we are really in on issues like this.

She quotes George Will as calling Huckabee "Apostle Mike".  This is just sad, sad, sad.  When someone who is considered "conservative" has all but swallowed down the Cultural Marxist Kool-Aid, the game is just about over.

Of course, you cannot expect much from Lindsey Graham.  He is ready to move on, but for the moment, he's going through the motions.  I suppose we are supposed to be impressed with his valiant struggle.  How brave he is!  /sarc

She claims that 61 percent of young Republicans favor same sex marriage.  If my head shaked any harder, it would fall off.  This has to be wrong, but if it is right, we are in the deepest possible doo-doo.

Here's a problem I have with it, or just one of many.  For almost the beginning of Western Civilization, marriage has been between a man and a woman.  It has never been otherwise, until now.  Why the change?  I'm sure that Moses didn't bring down the Ten Commandments from the mountain, with one of them being, "Thou shalt not commit adultery", with same sex couples in mind.  In an earlier time, the expression of an idea like this would have been considered obscene.  Maybe our entire culture is becoming one huge obscenity by an earlier standard.  I guess the Ten Commandments are out of date.  Perhaps the Supreme Court can rule on that one too.  They are always right, you know.

Quick post before I go...5/14/15

Not quickie.  My mood is somber these days.

Anyway, I was thinking about JP Aerospace.  Hate to say this, but I don't think he'll ever get to space.  But what he is doing is good because it is science, not the pretend science, but the real science.  What he might do someday is to prove the feasibility of using an airship to get to orbit.  The reason I think he doesn't make it is because of money.

Money rules the world.  The world doesn't want truth, which is what he may be able to discover.  Money is being worshiped like an idol, and it is a false idol.

If money wasn't the object, and science was, he would make it. But since money is an idol, and therefore the object to which everyone seems to strive, he won't make it, even if he proves feasibility beyond all doubt.

People are false these days.  Truth will be suppressed at all costs.  Look what happened to the molten salt reactor.

Not only that, but look what is happening to coal.

All fossil fuels are better than so-called renewables.  The point isn't to clean up the environment, but to destroy the civilization.

I'll guarantee you that clean tech to clean up fossil fuels would be cleaner and cheaper than either wind or solar.  But cleaning up the environment is not what this is about.

These people are liars.  Always have been, always will be.  They are protecting someone or something and the truth of That One must also be suppressed.

Whatever Happened to America? ( repost )

Note:

This isn't reposted to engage in a bit of self pity.  It is offered, with comment, as a way to understand "what went wrong".  He mentioned his sister, who turned out to be an outstanding example of what America once was.

I too, have a sister.  She and her husband lived a life a lot like the one he says of his sister.  They had two sons who grew up to be responsible adults, much like themselves.

The problem is that they vote Democrat.  The problem is that they don't understand why they do what they do.  They needed guidance, but never received it.  If they had received proper guidance, they may well have gone in a different direction with their votes.

How do I know this?  When my sister was raising one of her sons, and he was still a baby, she liked to comb his hair into a cute little curl.  My dad had a word with her, and that stopped.  Guidance!  From dear old Dad.  I don't know what Dad said, but he might have said "you don't want your boy to be a sissy, do you?"  My nephew didn't become any sissy, I guarantee.

Not everyone is blessed with brains.  Some folks need some help sometimes.

This is not meant that she should have voted Republican.  Actually, the Republicans aren't any better.  But she "believed in" the Democrats, which is where she is making her mistake.  Don't believe the politicians at all.  They are all bad.

The original post follows:

Given that readers have been saturated to the point of fatigue with coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings, I thought I’d provide some relief and write about another critically important topic that is generally ignored by the media.

Last Saturday, I called my sister to wish her a happy birthday, and, as is almost always the case when we speak, we got into a discussion about “the good old days.” Early on in the conversation, my sister asked, in a tone of frustration and disgust, “Whatever happened to America?”

To fully appreciate her question, you have to understand that my sister and her husband are models for everything that once made America great. They worked hard all their lives, clipped coupons, paid their bills, saved up for their golden years, and raised three wonderful children who went on to live the same kind of responsible, self-sufficient lives.

But a funny thing happened on the way to their retirement: America disappeared. Well, it didn’t exactly disappear. What actually happened was that it disintegrated. The certitudes that provided the strength for its moral structure simply decomposed over time — sort of like that History Channel show Life after People.

My sister made an excellent point when she said that things that were once considered to be unacceptable in America are not only accepted now, but glorified. And that, I believe, is the key word: glorified.

Take “gay pride,” for example. As a libertarian, I firmly believe that how someone chooses to live his life is his own business, so long as he does not trample on the rights of others. However, I never understood what “gay pride” was all about. I finally came to the conclusion that it had nothing to do with pride and everything to do with “in your face.”

That’s what my sister meant by the term glorification. In the 21st century of secular-progressive America, it is not sufficient merely to be accepting of things that were once considered to be off limits. Now they must be praised, exalted, and celebrated.

Likewise, I believe that the motivation for legalizing gay marriage is to glorify it. I don’t think it’s any of my business if two homosexuals want to get “married,” but I also don’t believe it’s any of the government’s business. The publicity surrounding the attempt to get the federal government to “legalize” gay marriage is all about glorification.

But gay pride and gay marriage are just two of thousands of politically incorrect examples I could allude to in an effort to embellish my sister’s question, “Whatever happened to America?” Sports, in particular, is saturated with such examples.

Last week, I happened to watch the story of Jim Valvano and the North Carolina State miracle national championship in 1983, and what struck me most was how different the players were just thirty years ago. No pony tails, no dreadlocks, no tattoo-covered arms, no saggy bloomers passing as basketball shorts.

The players were civil, well-spoken, and clean cut — intelligent young men who stayed in college all four years and displayed class both on and off the court. Such athletes would seem odd to the typical yahoo sports fan of today.

But that was then and this is now, and the reality is that the secular progressives have won. Just about everything that was once off limits is now glorified. And the key to glorifying moral decadence is getting people to submit to the let’s-pretend game.

We pretend that thug athletes are heroes. We pretend that movie stars are authorities on the most important social and political issues of the day. We pretend that we really believe “rap” is music. We pretend that having pregnant teenage girls running around loose in our high schools is no big deal.

We pretend that the scoundrels roaming the halls of Congress are honorable, upstanding men and women of courage who are serious about upholding the Constitution. We pretend that we have a legitimate president in the White House who is deeply concerned about protecting American citizens. We pretend that we live in a constitutional republic where we are free.

The sad truth is that in today’s America, nothing is real. Money is fake. Politicians are fake. Liberty is fake. We live in the United States of Fake, where we create fake presidents, fake heroes, and fake morals.

The media can distract us for long periods of time with the next terrorist attack, the next plane crash, or the next natural disaster, but it can never answer the question “Whatever happened to America?” Why so? Because if they ever dared to honestly address the question, it would open a thousand cans of worms that they are ill prepared to deal with.

My sister and I grew up in an America that young people of today would find quaint — or perhaps disgusting. To be sure, there were plenty of injustices in our time. There always have been and always will be. But there was a sense of stability that stemmed from certitudes. There was a generally accepted understanding of the difference between right and wrong. There was a meaning to life well beyond bread and circuses.

As the far left, aided and abetted by the conservative media and RINOs in Congress, takes us ever deeper into the abyss of secular progressivism and collectivism, there will be fewer and fewer people around who will remember what the real America was like. And, as with the Holocaust, those with a vested interest in promoting the United States of Fake will increasingly deny that the original America ever existed.

Sure glad I was there to witness it.

A pointless story, but memorable

Obviously, it's memorable.  It's over 30 years old, so it's memorable.  But pointless, just the same.  Why write it then?  I've got to write about something, even if it is pointless.  Maybe there's something there. I've spent time thinking about it sometimes and wondering.

By the way, there's not much to the story.  It is quite a bit of nothing.  A nothing burger, if you will.

You may recall that I had a job while in college, and I was working in a retail establishment.  There was this bar next door.  As I never drink, I never went in there, but a couple times for change or something like that.

About closing time one night, this chick walks in.  It is quite obvious that she is a drunk as a skunk.  She can barely stand up.  She could talk and she asks a few questions and seems to act real friendly and everything, but it was late and I wanted to leave.

After I had had enough of this, I call the boss.  It was standard op to call in when at closing time anyway, but this night was a little different with this chick in the place.  The boss gets the police on  conference call, and I describe the way the woman was acting, so they sent a car, and took her home.  End of story.

See?  Not much to the story.  So why did I remember it?  I recall observing to the boss that she seemed to be trying to get herself taken advantage of.  The boss opined that if anything like that happened, the poor dude may be in for a rape accusation.

Memorable for that?  Don't know.  For some reason, I think about this chick from time to time.  Was she trying to get me to take her home and go for some "extracurricular" activities?  I mean, what else was she doing?  She could have left, since there really wasn't any point in her to continue hanging around.

Some may say:  So why didn't you?  To tell you the truth, there wasn't going to be any way that was going to happen.  This was a public place, and you cannot overtly do something like that.  If that was her plan, then it was flawed for that reason.  If anything happened to her, there would have been witnesses, you see.

Oh, is that the reason you didn't?  You woulda if you coulda, wouldn't you?

Who knows?  Maybe.

It's just that the woman was messed up.  If she had to get drunk in order to get laid, then what was her problem?

There was a problem there.

I like problems, too.  Maybe I would have liked to help her solve hers.  But I never saw her again.

What the f88k.

Military readiness problem

Saw this little news blurb on Instapundit, and it reminded me of something that was said in the link ( not provided oops ) provided in this here post...

So, what did this guy say?

If the Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force were, indeed, planning to take over Texas, just what does Gov. Abbott think the state guard would be able to do about it?
Just how can the military take over anything, especially Texas, if it has a readiness problem?  The dude has credibility problems, I'd say.

Tiny Tim - Tip Toe Through The Tulips (Live)

Here's 'Tiny Tim' on the comedy show Laugh-In, performing the mentioned song.  This is regarded as comedy, mind you.  The time was in the late sixties.  I pose the question:  Why was this considered to be funny?  Another question:  Would such a performance be considered as funny today?  The answers to these questions may tell you something about how the society has changed in this last 50 years.

Don't believe me?  Think about the questions I raised and then you cannot help but agree that something here has changed.

Unfortunately, those who would agree that there has been a change all right would also say that the change has been good.

The Departed: Sullivan is gay

Theories.  There are always going to be theories.

My theory is that most people have swallowed the premise that homosexuality is an identity.  The premise is one that the Cultural Marxists have thought up.  Secondly, although I agree that homosexual attraction might well be born into a person, it doesn't necessarily make it an identity.  Nothing makes it an identity until you choose to make it an identity.  Got that?

Therefore, if you decide that you are "gay", then that is only you associating yourself with an identity.  Like choosing to be a Republican or Democrat.  Or a Baptist or Catholic.

The homosexual attraction is just a moral problem.  One problem amongst many others that we all face.  It's what you do about your moral problems that will determine who you are.

Of course, the dominant culture paradigm would reject my theory.  Okay.  It should be clear that I don't agree with this.

Also, that this is the kind of thinking that leads to same sex marriage, which is about to go down, I'm afraid.

The Cultural Marxists win again.  The most disappointing thing to me is that our own side fell victim to this.  How can we ever win if we cannot out think our opponent?

Forehead uber alles

Doesn't David Cameron look kinda weird or what?

Look at that forehead.  You can park a Chevy in there.  He reminds me of the Coneheads.

Yeah, that's a bit much.  It ain't really funny, but its fun.  Bwah, hah, hah.

A little laugh is good medicine

Hey out there.  Just a little bit of writing here because that's all I have in me right now.  What can I say?  Things are really, really bad.

It's been times like this that I turn to humor.  I thought of a funny idea yesterday, but nearly forgot all about it.  As I was scanning the news on Instapundit, something there reminded me of the idea.

Then, it occurred to me that it may have done before, so I googled it.  The closest thing was this.  Now that's not exactly the idea.  The real idea is to put your "favorite" person on the roll to reassure yourself that you are doing your part to flush the bad stuff down the toilet.

If only that would work...

Anti-government resistance now the beating heart of GOP

This to me is stunning in its epic stupidity:

Much of what now passes for conservatism proceeds from extremes of government loathing that would have stunned Ronald Reagan himself.

Some of my readers used many colorful words to characterize that argument. Here’s the word I’d use:

Obvious
.--- Leonard Pitts, Seattle Times op-ed

If that were true, the ground would be literally shaking with an incipient revolt.  There are supposedly millions of conservatives.  If they were all united as this numbnut seemed to think, I'd say that they'd have a real problem about now.

Instead, this guy believes his mere words will scare the mice back into their holes.

If they were lions and not mice, the roar would be deafening.  Instead, the silence is deafening.

If there is one word to use about this article, I'll supply mine.

Bullshit.

What to do?

This business about same-sex marriage is so troublesome that it has me utterly confounded.

Why would this ever even be considered as a legitimate course of action?  If the Supreme Court does this, I don't see much of a future for this country.

Indeed.  While Bush was still President, he said something that also floored me.  It may give some insight here, if anything can.  He said something to the effect that "nationalism is a threat to America".  This was maybe about 2006 or so.  The problem here is like a corporate officer telling his board of directors that he intended to destroy the company over the long run because its existence was a threat to itself.  It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.  The statement was a non-sequitur of non-sequiturs.  It was an oxymoron of oxymorons.  Yet these people don't see it that way.  It makes perfect sense to them, I suppose.  I suppose only in the kingdom of the insane can an insane statement ever make sense.

What do you do when the leadership of the nation loses its marbles?

Revolution?  Oh, that's inevitable.  Eventually the system must fall.  It's only a matter of when and how it begins.

These people are continually lighting matches in rooms full of gasoline.  The only reason it hasn't blown up yet is pure dumb luck.

In case you're interested

It's my opinion that there is an ongoing coup attempt going on before our very eyes.

  1. The Supreme Court may rule that same sex marriage is a right.
  2. The Congress may pass Fast Track Trade Authority that has the force of a Treaty even without the 2/3rds vote that the Constitution says is required  before a treaty can take effect.  Also, said treaty is being negotiated in SECRET.  The Congress, which is supposed to stop Obama, at least according to Limbaugh, is going to hand even more power to a wayward President.  They aren't even going to bother to find out what is in the treaty.  Obama is being given a blank check.
  3. The President is a Marxist and stealth Mohammedan.  That accusation would have once carried some weight, but these days, it might even be seen as a plus.
Nobody will do a thing about any of this either.

N.O.T. A. S.I.N.G.L.E. T.H.I.N.G.

You might expect that of John Q. Public, who doesn't know his arse from a hole in the ground.  But those whose position requires them to scream bloody murder aren't likely to say a damned thing.  Much worse than even that, they will do nothing.

Can UK "Conservatives" teach us anything?

David Frum, writing for the Atlantic seems to think so.

All the more reason to believe that the Supreme Court will screw us on same sex marriage.  Likely, they are persuaded by this type of reasoning.

The reasoning can be summarized thusly:  If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

So, we are to understand that "conservatives" are no longer to be the party of principle.  Just do what everybody else does.  That's the only way to win.  That principle stuff is so yesterday.  You got to get with the times.

Hey, that ain't conservatism.  That's surrender.
