Long and the short of it--- 4.29.17

Previous   Next

Note:  This is the fourth of the series, which is just now being christened.  Back in February of last year, I had an inspiration to write some long pieces, which is out of character for me.  I have just received a new inspiration to write another, so I will combine it with the others and make a new series out of it.

Hopefully, this series will be worth reading.  It will be longer than the usual fare, so it may take longer than a minute to read.  Just think how long it takes to write it.  Much longer than it takes to read it, I assure you.  Anyway, so much for this introduction to the introduction, so to speak.

Here goes:

This may not be so long after all.  I started out with an outline of what I wanted to say.  I thought: my writings are short because I am disorganized.  Maybe so.  But sometimes words can get in the way.

I wanted to recap what came before.  The truth is that I am bored.  Writing the same thing over and over again is just make work.  This has to be substantially new.  Or so I think at the moment.

I am writing now because I'm bored, not inspired.  Only to do something against the boredom.

There is a problem these days.  It is that people won't listen.  I think it is called groupthink.

Here is something hopefully new:

What is your center?  Is it not what is in your soul, or your innermost being?  As for myself, I want to be for the truth (see John 8:44).  Easy to say, not so easy to do, because the truth is a slippery thing.

Here might be a controversial idea: Jesus is of the truth, and the truth is like the hair of Sampson, the strength of the nation.  "Cut off" that hair, and the nation is no longer what it was.  But a scientist is a seeker of truth.  Yet, only a seeker.  Not the truth itself.  A truthful scientist is humble before the facts.  For example, Einstein added the cosmological constant to his famous equation , which was against his better judgment.  When years later, it seemed to be no longer required, he thanked Hubble for it.  But it turns out that it was needed again.  So, what was the truth?  Einstein was humble enough to admit that he didn't know for sure.  And even though he may have been the greatest scientist ever lived, he was wrong about something, even though in his heart, he believed he was right.

Being arrogant in the face of the facts is like cutting yourself off from the truth.  It is like cutting off the hair of Sampson.  Try to note that when you observe people who wish to shut down the speech of someone with whom they have a disagreement.  Someone like that may not want the truth to be known.

My vanity is that I think I am seeking the truth, and that I am for the truth.  The real truth may not be the same, and it worries me.

Country boy

Cooked me up some pancakes, and this song came to mind.

Not a country boy am I, but I'm a-workin' on it.

Can't wait for this to be over

Today is Friday.  One more treatment this week, and I have a couple days off.

When I have extra time like that, I want to use it for something.  But I also don't want to jeopardize my continuing treatments.  It doesn't take much to get me messed up.  Consequently, I feel as though I am stuck here.  I would like to travel, you see.

What I mean by that is that I would like to travel back to my trailer.  I want to check up on it because I worry about it.  Just before I left, I had a infestation of ants.  These can be a problem in my area.  I had an infestation earlier, and had success controlling them.  But they are back.  I hope they haven't become a huge problem in my absence.

But more than that, I am really bored with this place.  The television was a novelty at first.  Now it bores me.  All these stations and nothing to watch.

You can get caught up on the news pretty easily.  So, the news gets boring too.  The media tries to hype it up, but it is boring anyway.

I need something to occupy my time.  My "moonshot" did that for me.  This doesn't.  Fortunately, it wont last much longer.

Two thirds of cancer treatments completed

In the beginning, this seemed like it would go on forever.  Now that the end is in sight, the time seems to have gone quickly.

How odd that is.

Funny how so much of this seems odd.  The cancer is serious.  But the treatment is painless.  You would think otherwise, but it is truly painless.  For instance, if a tooth needs to come out, you need to have it extracted.  This would naturally cause pain to have it extracted, but with anesthetic, the pain is not so bad.  However, there is still the sensation of something having happened.  When you finish with the dental work, your mouth feels different.  At least, mine did.  But this?  It is as if nothing has happened.

There does appear to be some slight difference in sensations.  My feet feel better.  For example, prior to treatments, I could not easily distinguish between hot and cold with my feet.  So, instead of using my feet to tell how hot the water was in the shower, I used my hands.  Now, I can use my feet under the faucet and tell when the water is hot enough to cause the shower to start spraying out.  You know.  You don't want to be showered with cold water.  Adjust the water temperature before letting it spray. Before this infirmity, I could use my feet so that I wouldn't have to stoop down.  But with this foot lacking in sensation, due to the cancer, I had to bend down to feel the temperature.  Now, it is back to what it was before the cancer.  That is a slight difference.  An improvement, I would say.

I have to look for improvements so I can tell my doctor.  I don't want to tell him that I feel better if I really don't. I don't want to tell anybody that I am feeling better if I don't.  So, I think I am feeling better.  But it is not dramatic.

Just as the treatment itself is not dramatic.  Yet the situation is a matter of life and death.  Without this treatment, I would die soon.  Not overtly dramatic, yet dramatic nonetheless.

How strange that is.

Unless something really dramatic happens, I will walk out of there for the last time feeling much the same as when I came in.  Yet, I am told that I will have achieved near total control over this cancer.

Perhaps some small part of it may remain.  Given how slow it grows, this is not likely to be the thing that kills me.

Yet I feel the same as before.  How strange.

Liberals may not be on the right side of history after all.  But you better not say it, or you will get banned in the university and elsewhere.

Or was that tingling feeling in Chris Matthews' leg just Bathhouse Barry humping it?

One thing mentioned was an observation that Trump seems more like Coolidge or McKinley, than a modern so called conservative. [" modern so called conservative" are my words]

While we worry about Russian "hacking", ICE chief does an Anthony Wiener

According to Debbie Schlussel.

Meanwhile, back at Ace of Spades, Ace questions whether the lower infiltration illegal immigration numbers are really down.  Could it be that these numbers are being fudged so as to get ordinary Americans to think that Trump's wall isn't necessary?

Just sayin'.

PS  Trump didn't fire the guy?  Wassup with that?!

Why do they call Obama "Bathhouse Barry"?

The rumor ( which isn't much of one according to some, meaning that it is a well known fact ) that Obama is a homosexual is out there in the web.  So, I searched it on the web a little deeper and found some interesting tidbits.

Actually, it is indeed news to me, as I do not follow these types of leads.

It is said that Obama himself said that if people knew what he did when he was younger, he would not have become president.  Could it be that Bathhouse Barry was referring to this?

Now, the deceit of this seems staggering.  But only if you think the leadership of this country is worthy of respect.  Once again, I note that there is no respect for the truth.

I read some critical stuff about Obama back then, but at the time of the 2008 election, this stuff was pretty much suppressed.  You cannot say anything about Obama even now, or you will be called a racist.

So, is he going to "come out" anytime soon?

The Pope Heads to Egypt to Defend Islam

Says this article in Frontpage Mag dot com.  Just yesterday, I found that this "Pope" was not going to use a bullet proof car.

A Reuters article says that this "Pope" is visiting to mend fences over "insults" to Islam made by Benedict.  The article says that the supposed insults were about Benedict labeling attacks as "terrorism".  That explanation is courtesy the Catholic News Agency.

It looks like this "Pope" is appeasing the Islamists in this article.  Communication ties were said to be broken after Benedict's complaint, which seems to me not to amount to very much.  Benedict's remarks were said to have crossed a "red line".

The article caught my attention because of the fact that Francis is going to Egypt without protection.  It looks praiseworthy on the surface, but if you dig a little deeper, something begins to smell a bit.

Picking your nose is good for you?

Or so it is has been said in this article today.  Boosts the immune system, or so it says.

Reminds me of a scene in Caddyshack

Brave New World --- Dead Ahead

There were a few posts about that awhile back.  Don't know about the book, but the recent movie about it, that is.

In that movie, the new dystopian society didn't allow childbirth.  Nope, kids were raised in bags, not inside mothers.

Guess what is coming soon.  Yep, looks like kids will be born out of artificial wombs after all.  These will be plastic bags.

Considering the unthinkable

If Trump does an el Foldo on the wall, it may be time to clean the "bathtub ring".  That's what Chris Matthews called Trump supporters-- a bathtub ring clinging to Trump.

Cleaning the bathtub ring means no unconditional support of Trump and everything he does.  Not for me, at least.

That doesn't mean supporting the Dems.

Actually, what it does mean is that the GOP is screwing him right now and he cannot stand up to them.  In fact, he may have no other choice but to give in to the GOP and do what they want.  But what the GOP wants is not what got Trump elected.  The wall is his signature issue.  If the GOP gets him to abandon it, they will have made him a captive of the party.

If he vetoes the spending bill and causes a shutdown, what will the GOP do about it?  They might remove him from office, that's what.  But if they do, they may lose whatever they've gained over the last several years.  The GOP will lose a lot of credibility, if not all of it.

Trump also ran on a peace plank.  He shouldn't go running off to war, which sounds a whole lot like a neo con project.

Peace and the wall-- if these go, Trump won't last.  He may not last anyway, but at least we know who the enemy is.

One Egg or Two? - by Robert Ringer

One Egg or Two? - by Robert Ringer: I think it was Groucho Marx who used to tell the joke about a guy standing on a street corner and repeatedly hitting himself over the head with a hammer. This tickles me a bit.  It tickles me because it seems like there's is this expectation that everybody "be nice".  "One egg or two", the waiter is said to ask.  What about no damned eggs!  If you don't want an egg, don't let yourself be buffaloed into "ordering" an egg!

Somebody may think I am not a nice person for saying that.  Believe me, I can and do act like that.  Which makes me laugh.  Why?

Beats the hell out of me.  But let me segue into my main point...

Trump is going to fold over the shutdown issue when he ought to win on the merits.  Why would he do that?  Because he wants to be "nice".

Groan.  The GOP is probably the guys hitting themselves over the head with a hammer about now.  It feels so much better now...

Update:

The fourth paragraph above needed a bit of correction.  I am not like that all the time.  I at least try to be polite most of the time.  I can and will act like that when I think the situation calls for it.

Update:

One egg or two is a Jedi mind trick.  Why let anybody pull that one on you?

Truth is essential

That is true because without it, nothing can last.

If there is anything wrong with our society today, it is that truth is not desired for its own sake.  That is how you get things like Bruce Jenner and homosexual marriage.    It is how you get the fraud of AGW.  It is how you get leftism in general.

Hillary is upset supposedly because the Russians did what?  They "hacked" her campaign, and revealed the truth about her, it is claimed.  Even if the Russians hacked the election, we should thank them for it.  Anybody who wishes to be president, and is unhappy that the truth got out about them, should not be in charge of this nation's affairs.  We should be happy that enough people were bothered by the truth about Hillary that they denied her the presidency.

If she became president, the rule of law would be over in this country.  It has a chance now.  Not that it is guaranteed, but it has a chance.

The left isn't interested in the rule of law.  The so-called right claims to be.  We will see about that.  The people who should care are the weakest amongst us.  But the weak can be deceived.  The weak wouldn't be weak unless they could be.  The left preys upon this.  The so-called right?  I'd like to believe otherwise, but there are many times when you cannot distinguish them from the left.

Polls are not really reliable.  But the polls that say that that there's something wrong in this country tend to be pretty consistent.  Now, why do you suppose that people think that there's something wrong?  Bound to be something there, right?

Could it be?

That posts like this one gets Ann Coulter banned?

The real problem with the left is that it sold its soul to the devil.  That is assuming that it had a  soul to sell.

Ann Coulter tells the truth, you see.  The left cannot abide that.  It is not just a matter of disagreement as to what the truth is, no that is not it.  Nope, the left knows what the truth is, and is actively banning it so that people will not be able to know it.   For to know the truth is to know that the left is not in favor of it, and even crooks need some honest people around.

But of course...

Trump wins YUGE in a Government shutdown...

cuz he can pick and choose which agencies get money and which do not.  That means a whole lot of swamp creatures won't get fed.

Bwah, hah, hah! ( eeeeeevil laugh )

Dems are desperate to enforce a defeat, or claim some kind of dubious victory; that they betray their fears.  For instance, Trump is said to be softening on the wall issue.  Schumer jumps all over it, claiming that Trump took it off the table.

Not so fast.  Let's wait and see.  The source for the news was anonymous.  It might be a head fake.  For Schumer to latch onto that shows his desperation.

TrumpCare Being Held Up Over A Trifle

Are the various GOP factions colluding with the Democrats, and are they conspiring to sabotage the Trump presidency?  According to this article, there is no good reason to reject this bill.  So why reject it, unless the objective is to deny the president any legislative successes?

Whither does it slouch?

After reading of many articles, the phrase "the center cannot hold" made me look up this poem:

The Second Coming

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

comment:

"Slouches toward Bethlehem"?  It was Robert Bork who penned Slouching towards Gomorrah.  Which is the more likely is anybody's guess.

Update:

This is what I am talking about.   You'd expect that this would guarantee a victory, but you never know.

Awning repair

How to fix an awning on an RV.  It so happens that the one on mine is not working properly.  This repair may be necessary.  Or one like it.

There are two videos.  It seems pretty self--explanatory.  However, once you start working on something like this, there always seem to be problems that you don't expect.  Well, here they are...

Disassembly...

And reassembly...

Sean Hannity the next one to be out FOX'ed?

Now there are sexual harassment allegations against Sean Hannity.  But looky who's making the allegations---Debbie Schlussel.  I remembered the name, but she seems to have been out of the news for awhile.

So, I searched and found that she has a website.  It turns out that she's no lefty.  She might be the left winger's biggest nightmare.

What gives here?  I'm no Hannity fanboy.  But Hannity did appear to support Trump, so it makes sense for the lefties to go after him.  But with Schlussel?  That may be a big mistake.  She is far more formidable than Hannity, I would think.

The best thing about Hannity's radio show was the opening song .  So, I looked up the song.  It isn't about what it appeared to be about from listening to the intro to that show.  Anyway, I wasn't a Hannity fan.  I didn't listen to the show for long.

GOP needs not fear a shutdown

The use of words is a key here.  It isn't a shutdown, for the government is still taking in plenty of money through taxation.  No, only non-essential services will have to close down for the duration of the fight.

Then, let the fight begin!  For the GOP now holds all the cards necessary to win.  In previous shutdown fights, the GOP either lack the means, or lacked the will to fight.  The last time the GOP controlled the Congress and the Presidency, George W. Bush was president.  There's no way that Bush was going to fight like this.  Prior to Bush, you had to go back to Hoover.  Perhaps Eisenhower could have had a short time in that position, but Ike had little inclination to fight, and so he was a lot like Bush.  Now, in order to win this fight, you only have to control one third of Congress.  There can be plenty of defections from the GOP position, but Trump can still carry the day if he holds one third of either House.  This is a big challenge for the Dems to overcome.  Therefore, the fight can be won.

The fight is going to be over non-essential services and government spending.  So-called conservatives are going to hold firm on spending, or have no credibility in the future.  Why would anybody believe them when they had the opportunity to rein in spending, but refused to engage the Dems in this fight?  If conservatives are true to their word, they will welcome this fight.  If not, they will be found to be fakes.  Wouldn't it be better to know who is truly for something or not?  Therefore, a fight over spending is nothing to be afraid of.  This is actually the moment they have been waiting for, if we were to take them at their word.

The government will not shut down, and the sky will not fall.  But whoever wins this fight over spending will control the course of the government for years to come.

Let the fight begin.

Sanders ain't no colonel

With respect to the March on Science, Trump should tell them to get back to their laboratories and do some science, not marching.

If Sanders wants to lead these "scientists", let him lead them to nowhere, because that is where they are going.

Also, computer models aren't science.  You can make a computer model do anything.  It is no different than a movie's cgi special effects.
